John Wicks

Organic Regenerative Farmer

John Wicks is a fourth-generation farmer in Liberty County, MT. Born in Havre, Montana, John spent the majority of his childhood on a dry-land wheat farm south of Chester, but also spent a considerable amount of time in Eastend, Saskatchewan where his family also farmed until 1997. John earned his Associates Degree of Applied Science in Welding and Machining from Helena College, and worked in the field before attending Montana State University to study agriculture. During his first year of study, John’s father Russel passed away, and John returned home to run the family farm at the age of 21. He has been farming in North Central Montana since 2007. John began experimenting with cover crops in 2012, and is now planting fallow ground almost exclusively in covers. John’s main crops include lentils, chickpeas, wheat and barley. John has farmed organic ground since 2016, and has since converted the entire 6,000 acre farm to an organic system. John is always experimenting to improve his farming system with the goal of using cover crops and crimpers to implement No Till Organic. John is in the final stages for receiving his Regenerative Organic Certification. John currently serves on the Liberty County FSA Board and The MT AG Development Council.
